Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really need a lawyer?
All things considered, Yes. Contrary to popular misconception, immigration law is not simply a matter of filling out forms. Behind every immigration form is the US constitution, Laws, agency regulations and rulings, as well as agency policy. All these govern when, to whom and how US immigration benefits should be given.
An immigration lawyer can spot issues in a case that are not obvious to a person who is simply filling out forms and can give advice.
With over twenty-four years of immigration law practice experience, Attorney Uzo Akpele is knowledgeable about issues that arise in immigration cases.
At the very least, it is good to have a consultation with a lawyer so that one can find out what is possible in one’s case.

How much will it cost me, for you to represent me?
Our legal fees vary, depending on the type of case and the complexity of each case. Our office however uses flat billings, as well as offers payment plans where appropriate. We will tell you our legal fee in your case, after your consultation with the lawyer
What is the best way to prepare for a consultation with your office?
First, you should know all about your case – write out them if out, if you want. Don’t forget what you might have stated in forms which you may have previously submitted to a US embassy.
Next, have ready all your documents which relate to your immigration status in the US – reading them (especially ahead of your consultation) helps us to better prepare to answer your questions during your consultation
How long will it take before my application is approved?
We cannot tell you that because it is not up to us. The US government controls processing times. We do always advise our clients to wait patiently. We however keep up with our clients’ cases by writing the USCIS where a case has passed USCIS posted processing times. Sometimes a lawsuit is also available to compel the USCIS to act on a case.
Why is my case not going the same way as my cousin’s. We have the same type of case?
The truth is that no two cases are exactly alike. A thing like your age vs. your cousin’s age could even be why your case is not going like your cousin’s. More important though, is that your case should be going the way it needs to properly go.
Our office considers it important to know your case inside out, so that we can make sure that you have the appropriate immigration solution for your exact situation
